Your Nia Team,   Stirling September 2024
This retreat location has been DESIGNED to be perfect for international partipants or those travelling from England by air or rail who want to combine a 'holiday in Scotland' with a Nia training retreat, you don't need to worry at all about transport and you will have 'Scottish Adventures' to add to your Nia Belt experience.

1)  BY AIR: you can fly in to either Glasgow or Edinburgh as both are international airports.  Edinburgh is better if you choose to change and arrive by rail yourself, as with Glasgow there is a 3 minute walk from station to station when you transfer from the line incoming from airport to the line out to Stirling (well signposted but annoying with a castle). Most people choose a mini-bus service of some kind -- see next paragraph.
BY RAIL:   Edinburgh is probably the best choice, and you can get an ongoing connection to Stirling

2) airport pickup could be by the hotel minibus (small charge) - arrange this with hotel in advance- its about 1 hour from airport to the castle.  Or if you choose to spend a night or two in Edinburgh you culd then get the train from Edinburgh to Stirling station and taxi from there to castle (about 15 mins).  Taxi rank outside Stirling station, no need to pre-book, if course organiser Susan is available she may also be able to collect you.

3) the Nia Belts are being held in a castle which is actually a hotel with restaurant and bar -- you can stay in the castle so no transport needed.  Its in a village about 15 mins from the nearest town (Stirling) but you don't need to go into Stirling.  In the village (which is called Menstrie) within walking distance there are small shops for any essentials such a snacks, chemist and so on. Breakfast is included with your accommodation and meals can all be got from the hotel - lunch or dinner - at either the bar or the restaurant.

4) If you are arriving for Blue Belt you could choose to arrive early for the intermediate break between the split weekend white belt (which is happening  before Blue) and so that you can make the most of your flight costs and see a bit of the country too AND do it in the company of those who are sure to become friends and/or with guidance from "locals", so  in the intermediate days between the white belt course we will organise optional trips out. So, f
or the Blue Belt you can choose to arrive early or stay on and our local guide and Nia teacher Susan can help you make the most of your stay. These might be whole days out to see loch Ness, famous glens etc or to nearby towns with historic palaces (Scone Palace) and to do Nia in a Georgian state room n Perth!  These trips will be arranged once we have numbers and may even be as simple as a car trip with the organiser or other local "Nia-peeps)  as we love to drive and show people around.  Of course the weather may not cooperate - in which case we will go indoors to see Stirling castle and so on.  Alternatively you can or take local walks or mini-explorations - lots of choices!

Before Blue starts the White Belt trip days are Wed 25th & Thurs 26th, then we have the last 3 days of white belt Fri,Sat,Sun - then on the Monday your Blue Belt starts. So you could also look into auditing or just doing the public morning classes of those last 3 days of white belt. Contact Dorit or Laurie about that,

4) If during your stay you want to make a solo-trip into the nearest town, Stirling, there is good local bus (yes a bus) or there are a few local people who can give you lifts I expect, but I think you will most likely be happy to stay at the castle during course days.

5) the belt itself it taking place in the banquet hall of the castle but we will also be able to 'break out' into the lovely lounge overlooking the valley or the bar area and we plan a "farewell" meal in the hotel restaurant the night before the course ends.  First day we will start 9.30 and finish around 5pm, final day 27th we will finish at 4pm.

6) there are also lovely walks in the woods and hills around the castle and Susan will be available for any advice you need
